A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - Ryan Walter
With the first half of 2010 behind us, I think we can all agree that the transportation industry is slowly but steadily continuing to improve from where it was 12 months ago. International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) chief economist states that the outlook for air freight “looks better than it has in the past two years” as International air tonnage grew at a 26% annualized rate in 2010.
In the trucking sector, shipments grew by 11.1% year-over-year, and transportation expenditures grew 25% over the same period. As for as the rail and intermodal industry: as of early June, intermodal traffic has risen 33% over the same period last year, while nonintermodal shipments rose 27% over the same time period.
While the trends are looking up in all 3 segments above, the Indianapolis Traffic Club is experiencing its own growth. With a dedicated Board of Directors and a membership that realizes the benefits of being a member of ITC, our membership total is higher than it has been in years. ITC Board of Directors is also exited to announce the new ITC tri-fold brochure to help explain the benefits of becoming an ITC member.
